HER KITCHEN RULED

My mother could never do My Kitchen Rules
or prance as a MasterChef winner.
Beef stew or grilled sausages, mash and green peas
is what we gave thanks for at dinner.
She learned at those classes especially for girls
preparing for life, at the Home Science school.
She learned to sew clothes from her own cut out patterns
and how to set tables and serve tea and toast.
But mostly she learned how a girl had to be
a sensible family cook;
no Big Macs or pizzas, just sensible serves
from the Commonsense Cookery Book..

"COMMONSENSE"
Ancient English:
To think for ones self and act in a sensible manner;
not having to abide by political correctness,
no longer used by general population, particularly by persons making rules......... :roll:

During my school days it was "Cookery the Australian Way" - still one of the most useful cookbooks out - I still have my copy and still use it to stew fruit etc. Your poem brought back memories Neville. We used to have "mothercraft" classes where we learnt to hold and bath a baby (doll)!

Ross. Someone said once that if common sense is common why is it so hard to find. :lol:

Heather. Thanks, :) The book was pubished in 1948 after my mother had left school but it was used in our kitchen. It has remained in print and I have a copy to use. ;) :)

I was hoping someone might find that layer of meaning in my little verse. ;)

Hi Neville

I know 'The CWA cookery book' (Country Women's Association) was the one that most households used to have over this way.
My wife still has one and occasionally checks out something in it from time to time.

Yep I've got one of those the instructions are written on every Mc Cains packet ?? ;) ;)

And useing a microwave to cook everything just takes a little trial and error.
