THE BALLAD OF KATE HALL
Re: THE BALLAD OF KATE HALL
G'day M K C,
Dunno,
I think we sorta bounced an idea into a poem with a random subject and like a hungry Barra took the bait and ran with an idea and chewed on it for a while to spit it out into the next verse.
And don't forget our poem needs tightning up a little bit. (my fault)
I first said to you. I didn't know whether Chudliegh Hall was a place, an individual, or the name of a police station in the LAPD. Ha Ha.
At WD we were trying to encourage members to write Australian poetry. Where, we had only one member, a kindergarten school teacher, bless her soul, that had a go. I think if we had continued for another couple of weeks we, may have inducted a raw student into ABPA. We must return Maureen and finish the job. I'm sure, hopeful, would loosen-up a bit and join in the fun.
Sure they say 'two heads are better than one' and 'too many cooks spoil the broth'. I think a dual effort or maybee three per poem is the max. Well, there again, in the case of WD, Maureen and I din't mind how many poets joined in.
Another point. A good title should produce a lot of ideas.
There is not much more I can say, except.,I have a lot of respect for the poets at ABPA you are all masters of the art and I'm sure you can turn your hand to a challenge in the literary sense and come out winners.
Regards,
JB

Re: THE BALLAD OF KATE HALL
Of course we can John - we're bloody Australians - we can do anything, and usually do.
Matt has suggested a couple of beaut titles for our combined exercise already - I reckon we should kick it off next week and see where it goes.
I am busy at the moment putting together a video of my sons new boat for him and battling with the new computer program - but I'm not beaten yet - this is the 2nd one I've done and the first one was a real tear jerker according to those who knew the property.
Cheers

Hey Heather I've tried to work out a use for the jug and horses
Sir Chudleighs in a rage roust out the stable boys he’s in a real flap
Bring out Bess and Belle that Clydesdale pair and set them in the trap
He’s made off with the flaming Crystal it was that rascal Hall
He’s made off with the McGilicuddy Jug and set of glasses tall
Granny bought it back in 1800 in a place just north of Dublin town
It was blown at Cavan Crystal the lead crystal makers of renown

g'day Maureen.
Yep! I'll leave the selection of a title to you.
Mat has been brave.
You have to 1 Produce a title. 2 set a metre: 10/8 12/10 8/6 8/8 or even 7/7< 7/7 (odd) too hard.
You have to set the rules. With of course the Manager > M's consent.
The names in a set drawn pattern.

A good verse mate with a bit of intrigue. 17/15 15/15 17/17 sestet
It has a natural talking in the head thoughts style. our original poem was an 8/6 of eight lines.
You could set the pace with this opening verse. It is up to permission and Maureen
It could be an opener: A new story/poem.

Jeez, you must be important where you come from...
Are you knighting the fellow grovelling on the ground?

G'day, Heather and Dave.
What a great little conversation we have going here.
I'll just sit in the background and listen to the chit chat.
John.

Thanks for the kind words but I’ve got to tell ya I am a dead set novice and get lost when things start to get proper and can only write what’s in me head.
