Christmas ,Easter or whatever, they are what people make them and I see a lot of families just out there shareing good times and fun. I'm also a great believer in that you don't neccessarly have to be a church goer to be a good christian.

The commercial aspect will always be there and it has only grown as families earn more and can afford what I call extravagant gifts.

I told my crew last year that the best christmas is always spent with family and I think that will always be so.

Cheers Bob

It is true what you and others have said Bob but just this Easter at one of the church services I attended the priest said the sin that causes all others is selfishness and even sometimes in giving I think this is true. I think the simple things in life are the best and if everyone gave more of the less tangible things what a great place the world would be!

G'daay Marty,
Methinks folks are starting to realise this very thing. We old farts were raised in a time of those values, while the younger generations have been raised in the 'bling bling'....so it's something they have to learn to appreciate....progress eh?
The purpose of my life is to serve as a warning to others.

Having been away, I missed most of this til now.

My Grandchildren have a room full of toys and yet when I am left to 'sit' with them they ask me to make dough and we sculpt things according to our fancy. Sometimes I put their creations in the oven and 'bake' them so they don't go mouldy too quick. All those new fangled gizmos are left aside while we spend up to an hour playing with a little flour and water. Other times we play hidings. (NO not the type of 'hidings' my mother gave me!) The game the Yanks call 'hide and seek' costs nothing but a little time and attention.

It is sad that the Religious festivals have become so commercialised but we can't blame the Churches for that. And if we really didn't like it, how come we have allowed it to happen?

Sadly Zondrae, I think that the church is right in the frame.
