Thanks for the replies. From just the few experiences you have given, it makes one wonder just how many photos have been lost forever. Those heartless people mightn't have had sentiment for such things, but it doesn't give them the right to deprive others of what may well have brought them great joy!

and Heather, weren't you the lucky one! I'll bet that doesn't happen too often!

You have stirred up some conversation here with you wonderful poem. All my parents family photos were lost when we emigrated to Australia 50+ years ago. A huge chest of personal stuff went missing along with my Mums Wedgewood - never to see the light of day again. - There were no copies of any of these photos - all our childhood ones gone forever.

Your poem reminded me of another I read called ''The Picture on the Wall" about a photograph of a WW1 soldier bought in an antique shop - name unknown - but adopted by the family who had purchased him.
