It was lovely Dot - every day an adventure, although I hated it when I was there on my own

On Springdale we found a death adder in the well one time, short fat little bloke as dead as a doornail - he was easy to catch, the king brown that got in there live was a tad more difficult that was like trying to rope spaghetti.   Taipans, browns, 5 red belly blacks under the house that we eventually disposed of - every day was an exercise in survival. We had a big ??? actually thought it was a taipan x with a tiger but was never sure that played havoc with the sheep in the paddock next to the shearing shed. He killed 15 before we got him. He was never really a problem other than at shearing or crutching time (although we were always worried about the dogs) when all of a sudden you had a lot of sheep in a small paddock and we worked out that when they went to get water he got them on the face because they were all dead within about 50 yards of the soak.

We went in with the end loader - me driving that and the 2 blokes with rifles and I up ended every rock around the soak and every pile of rocks within the vicinity of it and eventually he sadly slithered across the line of fire and was accidently shot :o

I have fond memories of Maggie - used to take our boat over there all the time to a little isolated beach up past West Point - you could only get there by boat in those days but I suppose that has all changed now. And loved the little private hotel at Radical Bay right on the beach.

Good memories and good times

Hi Neville - Bluff Rock which is right near Mt McKenzie was the site of an Aboriginal Massacre where the white boss of Bolivia station had found an Aboriginal guilty of stealing his sheep and he got together a group of like minded people and chased the local aboriginal people men women and children to Bluff Rock where they proceeded to throw them over the cliff. That probably explains the feeling you were getting there. Lot of deaths in that area an no doubt their spirits are still there - there are also a few bora rings around that area

I made mention of this in my poem I AM KAMBUWAL - KAMILAROI
