SPARE CHANGE BLUES

SPARE CHANGE BLUES

I’m sitting by the roadside
picking stones from my feet.
Peeling dead skin from blisters,
hoping that they don’t bleed.
And I’m cursin’ the holes
in the soles of my shoes.
Singing -
‘Sir wont you spare me your spare change’ blues

It aint pretty, being homeless,
people walk straight on by,
like your some kind of leper
just waiting to die.
I’ve fallen on hard times
but I’ve paid my dues.
Singing -
‘Sir won’t you spare me your spare change’ blues

If you think I like begging,
well you’d best think again.
My pockets are empty
and I don’t have a friend.
Do you think that this life
Is a life that I’d choose?
Singing -
‘Sir won’t you spare me your spare change’ blues

I used to drink whiskey,
too much, truth be told.
I got me addicted,
lost all self control.
Those who once loved me
are now names I once knew.
Singing -
‘Sir won’t you spare me your spare change’ blues

I don’t eat when I’m hungry,
I just eat when I can.
No point getting angry,
I’m a God fearin’ man.
I know God will provide,
but if He don’t, won’t you?
Singing -
‘Sir wont you spare me your spare change’ blues

So sir won’t you give me
the price of a meal
I’ll sing you my song,
now that’s a fair deal.
May god bless you mister
And your family too.
Singing -
‘Sir won’t you spare me your spare change’ blues

Singing
‘Sir won’t you spare me your spare change’ blues
