WALTZING MATILDA TO SLEEP

WALTZING MATILDA TO SLEEP
© John Peel 5/7/2014

My little girl’s crying, her nightmare was bad, she has woken me up from my rest –
she wants to be held in her daddy’s strong arms to be soothed as her daddy does best.
I sing to her softly and cuddle her closely, I move at a rhythmical creep –
her crying subsides while she’s there in my arms – I’m waltzing Matilda to sleep.

I’m waltzing Matilda to sleep here tonight as I’m whirling my way round the floor.
“Rest easy my girl, it was only a dream, there is no need to cry anymore.
Your daddy is here for his beautiful princess, right now you are safe in his keep.”
And two little eyes are beginning to close as I waltz my Matilda to sleep.

It doesn’t take long and she’s slumbering deeply with pleasant dreams filling her mind –
a new day will dawn and she’ll wake with no thoughts of the nightmare that’s been left behind.
I know there’ll be times when the nightmares return and in darkness I’ll hear my girl weep –
I’ll be up out of bed just as fast as I can to waltz my Matilda to sleep.

I’ll be waltzing Matilda to sleep once again and be whirling my way round the floor.
“Rest easy my girl, it was only a dream, there is no need to cry anymore.
Your daddy is here for his beautiful princess, right now you are safe in his keep.”
And two little eyes will be starting to close as I waltz my Matilda to sleep.

The years will pass quickly, my girl will grow up and one day she won’t need her dad
to be there with her to help settle her troubles whenever the nightmares are bad.
There’ll be ups and downs in the lives we both lead and sometimes the climbs will be steep –
but deep in my heart I’ll remember the times when I waltzed my Matilda to sleep.

I’ll be waltzing Matilda to sleep in my mind as I’m whirling my way round the floor.
“Rest easy my girl, it was only a dream, there is no need to cry anymore.
Your daddy is here for his beautiful princess, right now you are safe in his keep.”
I’ll remember those eyes when they started to close as I waltzed my Matilda to sleep.

Thank you Maureen

It is written as lyrics. Even though it is fairly hot off the press, I already have a musician friend that is interested in putting it to music.

Good enough on it's own John no music needed.
