BLACK DOG

The dog is there.
Oh it is there, alright.
It sits growling in the dark,
restless with a lifeless stare.
I can't see it but it's there.
Oh yes, it's there at night.
I can feel its putrid breath
as it tugs upon the chain.
It must be kept restrained,
for it will tear at the throat
of sensibilities;
of rationalities;
of possibilities;
It needs to be sedated.
It must be kept contained.
The black dog is always there
it is fear;
it is despair;
It is a pall;
And though hate it as I must,
my loathing is matched only
by the unrelenting blood lust
of the blackest dog of all.

Well done Allan. Possibly being able to write these things or read them is a step towards healing, sort of takes it from the core of experience towards the edge of experience, if that makes sense.

Thanks Neville, Heather and Wazza

One in four suffer a mental illness at some stage of life, and thankfully for most it is short lived or overcome.
