B and D … Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBark Poet

Why doesn't she leave?
What invisible chains hold her?
Only bind chains from mind games.

She is unfettered and free,
and yet she stays.
Love, loyalty, trust, stupidity?
The doors are taking a beating,
or so she claims.
You can tell from the colours of the 'paintwork'
black, and blue and a dirty yellow shade.
Most unappealing,
a lighter shade would be more flattering,
wouldn't you think?

Why doesn't she leave?

This constant panic making her heart beat so rapidly,
her breathing ragged and her brain dull and uncooperative
cannot be good for overall health,
or morale,
or sanity.

Why doesn't she leave?

Because he loves her ….
he always tells her that – afterwards.
He’s sorry.
It will never happen again.

And she, foolish, weak, delusional …
believes and dissembles.

Some people believe that the pain of being alone is worse than the pain of an abusive companion.

I am sure that is right Neville - had some ladies I knew who felt that way much to my despair :(
