MESSAGE STICK

MESSAGE STICK ... Maureen Clifford © The Scribbly Bark Poet

Walking together along a deserted beach
with blue cloudless sky above, the froth of spume at our feet
the sound of gulls drifting on the breeze,
and pristine sand stretching for miles,
unmarked except for pippy mounds;
we found a shell pink pebble,
with a remnant of a past geologic age embedded in its depths.

Sea treasure.

Our pebble on the beach.
Our secret 'message stick'
placed in our special place to the left of the marker
tells the other
'I was here today thinking of you'.

We cannot always walk together.

Sometimes solitary footsteps walk these unmarked shores
and pristine sands beneath blue cloudless skies.

Move the pebble to the right.
'I was here today – miss you'.
Another message from the 'message stick'

Those who do not know,
see just a pebble on a beach.

You've made a good picture of the beach Maureen. I don't quite understand the reference to two together and solitary.

The only beach I would be strolling on right now would have to be somewhere where it is warm - Hawaii perhaps - as Bob succinctly said - merde! - It is cold :)
