It certainly came as a shock to me, I remember saying to Irene & Dave before the announcement that I didn’t have any real expectations but did quite like the one that turned out to be the winning poem.

Three of the poems were new ones and the other (it came 3rd) had won a couple of H/C’s in the past.
I usually enter 3 poems in our local W.A. Comps but seeing that the entry form was designed for up to four entries I added an extra one to fill in the page. I also like to have a couple of new poems for this comp.

I hadn’t entered many other comps recently because I was away quite a bit throughout the year, so had stockpiled a few new poems so to speak.

Naturally I raced out and bought a lotto ticket, but sadly my luck had run out by then.

I guess I'm fortunate in having spent so much of my life in places and among interesting characters that lend themselves as good subjects to try and write about. There's never any shortage of inspiration and most of my poetry is based, at least partly, on real people and places that I've known.

Well I haven’t said any thing before as I thought I would till the official announcement.
Yeah I was standing next to Terry watching the sheer astonishment as they kept on calling out his name and by the way standing close, like touching doesn’t mean it rubs off onto you 'cause I can tell you it don’t.
