Vale Carmel Randle

Long-time ABPA member Carmel Randle died in Toowoomba last Friday. I received notification today from her sister, Zita Denholm.

Hopefully, further information will be to hand soon.

Carmel Randle did quite a bit for Australian Bush Poetry over a quite of number of years.

I didn't know Carmel but regardless I feel for her family and friends. Hope she went gentle into the night.

I didn't know her, but I did get from her a copy of her little book on poetry writing. By all accounts she was a respected and loved bush poet and its sad news.

The funeral will be held in Toowoomba on Friday 11th at 10am at the "Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Goodwood Street Newtown (Toowoomba)

Zita Horton (Carmel's Daughter) said she passed away peacefully on Friday the 4th.
"Today marks the the end of an era as we said goodbye to my mother. Always full of ideas, full of life and action, she will be missed by everyone who knew her and especially by her family."
... and her extended Poetry family as well ...

RIP Carmel.

The Australian Bush Laureate Awards web-site tells us that Carmel won "Book of the Year" in 1997 with "Gone Bush!"

She also won the Judith Hosier Heritage Award in 2007.

The interment will follow the funeral and will be held at the Garden of Remembrance, Ruthven Street Toowoomba.
