Dear bush poets and bush-poetry competition organisers,

Melbourne Books is delighted to announce that from this year, bush poetry and stories with a bush setting/style will be showcased in a standalone anthology entitled Award Winning Bush Stories: The Best Winning Writing from Bush Poetry and Short Story Competitions Nationally (working title and subtitle). This anthology is to be released alongside the more urban-themed stories and poems featured in Award Winning Australian Writing, and will be edited by renowned bush poet Max Merckenschlager.

The development has come about following the large volume of submissions (both poems and stories) we received this year, and we decided the bush submissions deserved recognition through a more focused publication. We also felt that bush poetry would benefit from the expertise of an editor more versed in the form and more involved in the bush community, and Max's numerous wins over the years attests to this.

I have officially handed over the reins to Max, who is currently working on compiling submissions. The anthology is set for release in the first half of 2012 (to be advised). Please direct all enquiries to Max via maxandjacqui@bigpond.com.
