Thanks, Maureen. The father of the boy he saved presented him with a large green sash with gold fringes as a token of his gratitude. When Ned was captured at Glenrowan, he was wearing the sash under his armour. The surgeon who examined his wounds 'souvenired' it, but it re-appeared many years later, and is now on permanent display at the Costume & Pioneer Museum in Benalla - still blood stained.
