Baby galah

Has anyone had experience in raising a baby galah? I found one on my driveway tonight. It is fully feathered but does not have all its tail feathers yet so cannot fly. It is very quiet but appears healthy.

Question is what do I feed it at this stage?

Its name is Darby (cos it's Derby day tomorrow!)

Heather :)

Hi Heather you can feed them a pastey liguid mix that you get from the pet shop. Some people use a large syringe but most use a spoon bashed into a tunnel shape so that it resembles the mothers beak. You can get it to drink water with an eye dropper but make sure you only get it in its mouth as to much can drown them.

There are quite a few good videos on u tube as well that will show you what they look like. The hard part is getting them onto seeds and I find that sunflower seeds with the husk off are the best to start them on as they are soft.

Keep it warm in a cardboard box with an old bunny rug or similar

Good luck

Bob.

Thanks Bob, I knew you'd know. I did have a little look on the net and tomorrow bird seed and sunflower seeds are on the shopping list. Did try to get some water into it with a dropper. We don't have a pet shop so my friend is going to ask the vet tomorrow morning.

I have it in a bird cage with a towel over it tonight. I don't think it will get cold a it has all its feathers. I can't believe how quickly it became quiet when handled. A friend will look after it tomorrow while I work.

Heather :)

Poor little bloke - at least he had someone who gave him some love and care before he went. :(

He/she was gorgeous Maureen and really placid after protesting half heartedly for a little bit. It would have made a lovely pet. Goodness knows how long it was out of its nest or how long since it had eaten.
