I thought this word and definition from Wordsmith site was worth sharing (Not sure if this is the place but anyway) and I Quote:
mumpsimus

PRONUNCIATION:

(MUMP-suh-muhs)

MEANING:

noun:
1. A view stubbornly held in spite of clear evidence that it's wrong.
2. A person who holds such a view.

ETYMOLOGY:

According to an old story, a priest used the nonsense word mumpsimus (instead of Latin sumpsimus) in the Mass. Even when told it was incorrect, he insisted that he had been saying it for 40 years and wouldn't change it. The expression is "quod in ore sumpsimus" ('which we have taken into the mouth'). Earliest documented use: 1530.

USAGE:

"She knows the boss's behavior is wrong but mumpsimus has set in."
Mary Lou Dobbs; Repotting Yourself; O Books; 2010.
I thought therefor thought a Mumpsimus is really just " A pain in the neck."

Don't you just love words I do!

Cheers
Dolly

I know that I am right and you are being so presumptimus!
I’ll never change my mind about a word that is so mumpsimus!

I invented a word once.

ENSARDINATE. To roll or put things tightly together. Ensardinated. Ensardination.

'The motel bed's springs were shot and all night long we were ensardinated.

Strangely, it is only used by my extended family.

Is there a word for somebody who believes they have mumps in spite of clear evidence they are wrong?
