Poor old Henry. It was his 146th birthday and not a mention here!

Oh, No we didn't

Yesterday from 2pm til about 3.45 (we were booked from 2-3) Illawarra Breakfast Poets were entertaining at a retirement village. We chose special material and mentioned several times that it was Henry's birthday. I read my 'A Poet's Dream' and we were rewarded by a old gent who came up when we finally finished and told us his mother knew Henry well. He also told us that Henry was an illegal immigrant and that his real name was neither Henry nor Lawson.

They must have liked us because they would't let us out the door unless we made another 'date'. They even threatened to pay us next time..

Sorry to hear about your car accident Zondrae. The old gentleman at the retirement home was obviously confusing Henry with his father, Neils Hertzberg Larsen who was born in Norway, became a seaman and is said to have jumped ship in Melbourne to join the goldrush. For unknown reasons Henry was christened Henry Archibald Hertzberg LAWSON and his father then anglicized his own name to Peter Lawson.
