I've started a new thread because it's a bit off topic for General poetry. Could be a bit of fun. Let's see who is separated by how many degrees to someone else...

Zondrae I think it's more than having to be in the same place - you have to know someone who knows someone who knows someone etc

In the past 6mths I have become two degrees separated from the actress Rachel Griffiths (through someone I met) which means I am then three degrees separated to all the other famous people she has mingled with - I don't know her or them but I know someone who knows someone

Likewise I have met the man who does the narration for Mythbusters - therefore you are all two degrees separated from him and three degrees separated from the stars of the show. Cool hey? I'm sure one of them at least would have met the President of the USA..... and on it goes. The President has probably met the Queen.... So, theoretically I have four degreees of separation from the Queen - and she doesn't know it!

Six degrees of separation is the theory that anyone on the planet can be connected to any other person on the planet through a chain of acquaintances that has no more than five intermediaries. The theory was first proposed in 1929 by the Hungarian writer Frigyes Karinthy in a short story called "Chains."

I put it here as a way of explanation for Zondrae who was wondering about the degrees of separation and how it worked.

This is the chit chat section Marty, which is why it's here and not in the poetry section.

Do I interpret that as "whatever"

Some people play computer games. Some people like to watch the stars. Some people like to ride horses. Some -people like to train watch, which we could all argue are pointless activities - but, that's what they like to do and that's their choice and if it gives them pleasure, then that's the point and that's a good thing. Some people write poetry - I'm sure other people would think that was pointless. If we were all the same it would be a pretty boring world and there'd be way too many people train watching!

When I was a young teenager I used to stand on the railway station for the school train, and Jack Lang, former Premier of NSW used to stand nearby. Jack Lang was the brother-in-law of Henry lawson. So Marty it could be said I was separated by two degrees from Henry Lawson, certainly of interest to a bush poetry site discussion.

Real poets want to be polymaths. They are interested in everything. Discussion on varied and sometimes exotic sugjects has always been a feature of this site, to my memory. And I've hangng around here almost as long as the earliest members.
p.s. I put a photo of a tree and this sparked several tree poems. Tree poems are rare in bush poetry .

In all fairness I think Marty has a point.

It doesn't really worry me of course, chat about whatever you like.

My own reason for coming to this site is read and if necessary chat about Bush Poetry..

But each for his or her own I guess.

"Meh" is probably the most intelligent thing you two blokes have said today.

Let's put it this way then: there is not a lot of poetry being written and posted at the moment. There's lots of reasons for that and none of them to do with the site. Over time many people have posted pictures of grandchildren, trips outback, and dare I say, horses. Those bits and pieces here and there, help to up the connections we have made over the years. I feel confident in saying that yes, we come here for poetry, but we've all made friendships because of poetry.
