ABPA - Australian Bush Poets Association

Wanted to share with you guys - this is exciting for me and my family. I have never seen my Grandfather nor have I ever seen my Great Grandparents not a photo, nothing.. Through the kindness of a cousin who I also don't know I now have a photo. It was pretty bad but the new toy that I am playing with did a superb job of restoring it.

My Grandpa and Grandma are back row LHS My great grandparents in the middle and my brother is the dead spit of him -who would have known and the little girl 2nd from left is my Aunty Madeline - I did know her - she looks like my son when he was a baby

You had better believe it - they all had long hair - some were waist length - I can't imagine how they got it dry over there with even a hairdryer

...whatta ya mean how they got it dry?....I thought poms never got it wet!!......

That's a fantastic find Maureen.
We always find it amazing to find family resemblances, yet that's what one would expect in families.

That's great Maureen, and I'm really impressed with the photo tweaking that rejuvenated the old pic. What a lovely way to breath new life into the memories.

That's great Maureen. I often think of the women who came out here and the dresses, like in your picture, that they wore. Bet they never washed them if they had only worn them once like we do today!
Isn't it good when you have a face to put to a name. I had a tiny little photo of my maternal grandfather and we had it blown up to normal photo size and my daughter sketched him in pencil and charcoal and you can almost feel the greases in his trousers and a he stands in front of a wagon wheel. Now, I have the drawing framed and hanging in my living room and its about a metre by 1/2 metre and I often talk to him. He owned a team of clydesdales and carried logs and the like around Charters Towers and Townsville.

Neville I suppose we shouldn't be surprised but we were gobsmacked the resemblance is uncanny even the way he holds himself and sits - my bro sits exactly the same way.

Couple of interesting thing have popped up since I redid the photo that weren't immediately obvious - the lady of the far left is actually holding on her lap what appears to be a rag doll possible a now politically incorrect black mama doll with her hair in little pig tails all over her head. My Great Grandmother has something on her lap that could be an old fashioned ear trumpet?? we are not sure what it is, and on the screen behind my uncle on the far right is the face and shoulders of a little girl. Was the original screen a printed screen, is it a ghost of a child long passed and there were a few died very young in our family, is it real child hiding and out of focus.

So many questions and none now to answer but I am going to ask my long lost cousin - she would never have noticed them I don't think
