Success At Last

Post by Bob Pacey » Thu Dec 15, 2011 5:59 pm

I put in a new bird feeder as I'd been a bit slack with the last one and have had a bit of success getting the normal birds to come in. Fig eaters, Pee wees, Top Knots and Lorikets but today I went out and

WOW

A Pair of Crimson Winged Parrots.

The kids have been away for the week with school holidays and I think the peace and quiet might have induced them in.

Chuffed Really.

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

They are beautiful Bob... the superb parrots have arrived in Binalong on their annual migration... similar green but with orange trim rather than red. Spectacular!

Lucky Bob.

Mate, I get excited about seeing a Willy Wagtail.
Plenty of Magpies and a few Crows, occasional Blue Wrens with family.

On the way Heather they rang from St Lawrence so about four hours away. Told my 36 year old son to take a break if he needs to and his reply.

Yes Daddy ! Don't know where he gets his sarcasm from must have been his mum.

Need a few more than two of them parrots to make up offerings of a turkey, ay?

They're everywhere up here at the minute. They're wonderfully impressive parrots. Very distinctive in flight, with deep, full strokes and of course those flashes of colour.

Marty

ps. what's orange and sounds like a parrot?

. . a carrot :D

pps. looks like may be juvenille, male on left hasn't fully developed the 'red wing' - he has a flash of bright blue under his wing which he shows off to attract the shielas

.. and I have to be content with flocks of Sulphur Crested Cockatoos, Rainbow Lorakeets, a couple of BullBulls, and some awful grey thing that calls incessantly "Bumcack-Bumcack", and scares the other birds away.
