I wouldn't classify such slight variations in vowel sounds ie. cod, god as sight rhymes. If they are then I've learnt something - I believed a sight rhyme was something like "have" and "grave" or "love" and "move" which have totally different vowel sounds.

God is interesting - as a word, not as an imaginary entity. The way it is said by Americans is how we would say "guard". Then there is the slang "gawd" as in Good Gawd! Then there is the whole family of Gourds . . . my point being, dunno :roll: maybe a homework prompt "guarding God's gourds"?
