Update to Forum Friends
Greetings All ...
My sincere apologies for my long absence from the Forum, since early October. Some of you already know the reason - but for others, here is an update.
My husband Rod suffered two sudden and unexpected heart attacks during October. The pain was completely atypical - in his back, not chest - and it was only the quick thinking and diagnosis of our GP that led us to a happy ending.
After a roller coaster ride through three hospitals, an angiogram, aborted stent procedure and multiple tests, he eventually received a triple bypass with open heart surgery at Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane on 5 November.
The care and professionalism of medical staff all along the journey was amazing.
He is home and well and truly in recuperation now, but full recovery is still quite a way off.
Hope all of you have been enjoying your writing - I haven't yet caught up on any posts. Onward and upward for the new year, hopefully!
Cheers
Shelley

Re: Update to Forum Friends
Wow, sorry to hear of your upheaval in the health stakes Shelley, but glad to hear that Rod is on the road to recovery now!
I have a bit of an idea what you went through, though on a smaller scale, back in June I went for a regular pacemaker checkup and Two weeks later was in hospital having Two stents put in, one blockage was 70 per cent and another was 90 percent. No chest pain symptoms at all, just mentioned I had been feeling a bit tired, and I was also lucky to have such a good Doc. on the job.
Your health is your wealth, that's for sure!
All the best to you both for Christmas and the New Year.
Cheers,
Ron.

Thank you Terry and Ron for your good wishes.
Rod is recuperating steadily - it will be a long road, but we are hopeful of a positive outcome. All the best to both of you too, and Ron, hope all is well with your heart.

Re: Further Update to Forum Friends
Greetings Again All ...
A further update, and again, renewed apologies for my lack of participation in the Form this year.
Things have not run as smoothly as hoped and Rod's recovery from open heart surgery has been a roller coaster ride with a number of complications. As predicted by medical professionals, we were looking at 6 months before real signs of recovery became evident.
However we have now passed that milestone and I am pleased to report that at last, the fog has begun to lift. Hopefully it is all onwards and upwards from here.
Glad to see all of you have been having plenty of creative moments without me.
I know some of you have been dealing with health and personal issues of your own, so my thoughts continue to be with you. Maureen - to you especially, please accept deepest sympathy from Rod and me on your sad loss.
Regards
Shelley

Hi Shelley,
So glad to see that there has been light at the end of the tunnel for Rod and yourself.
It is great to see you back and do hope that things keep on the up and up for you both.

Good to see you both back on board - I figured something had happened but didn't want to invade your privacy - and I am delighted to see Rod feeling well enough to do a trip away and start enjoying life again at its best.
It is just horrible when something like this happens - it scares the bejesus out of us, friends don't really know what to say or do, everyone is walking on eggshells and at the same time trying to keep a degree of normalcy going and plastering a smile on their dial, and those more closely involved are worried sick and probably crying in the shower every bloody night
Life can be an absolute bitch - but we can't give in.
Thank you also for your kind words re my son - Caro and I are coming to grips with it. It's not easy, but we are getting there - because he would expect nothing less from either of us.
