Sailing boat wanted

Post by Stephen Whiteside » Thu Oct 18, 2012 11:43 am

I am looking to buy an old sailing boat. We don't want to race it, it will be used for cruising and exploring. It doesn't have to be fast, just reasonably seaworthy.

We would like something around sixteen feet long, preferably wooden, with enough room in the cockpit to store tent, sleeping bags, food, etc. (Yes, it will be a bit squeezy.)

Ideal classes would be as follows:

National E (Lazy E)
Mirror 16
145
505
FD

If you have an old boat lying in the shed that might fit this description, or you know of somebody who does, please let me know!

Hi Stephen - I just asked my son as he is a boatbuilder and knows a few blokes around the ridges who might have had one. This was is his response if it is of any help to you
None of them could be classed as seaworthy
They are all class racing boats meant to be sailed around the buoys with a rescue boat in attendance.
Hopelessly wet and very tippy.

Better off looking at something like a Hartley 16 or 18 http://www.australianhartleyts16.org.au/
Or better still a Jarcat 5 or a 6 , if you could ever find one http://jarcatmarine.com/
There are a few of the Hartleys for sale I noticed

Cheers

Maureen
