OPENING THE GATES TO THE PAST

Post by Maureen K Clifford » Fri Dec 23, 2011 11:03 am

This might be of interest - it is something that has come together rather nicely and I am very happy about it - the photo - now inspired to go and write another ancestral poem

Thanks Terry and Heather - it is a lovely poem isn't it? wish I had written it.

Got stuck into this genealogy thing over Christmas. My family tree has grown to gigantic proportions - might have to call in the tree loppers

Do you know Maureen, if Sir Luke Fildes ever did a painting depicting a young girl at what seems to be a birthday party outdoors.
A friend of mine has a print of this painting and we cannot identify the artist. Not much information and I haven't got a copy of the picture, I just wondered if that brief description reminded you of anything. The style is very similar to your ancestor's work.

Neville - could it be a Frederick Morgan painting perhaps? He did a charming painting called His First Birthday with a little girl prominent in the foreground in a pink dress. These sites are very good when searching for early Victorian Artists.

It doesn't ring any bells with me and my mob as they seemed to paint more serious subjects from what I have seen
