Good feedback Vic thanks I'll work on it and see how it sounds. At the moment i just tell them a bit about myself and then ask a little about them if it is a small group.

Thanks to all who replied will be a great help.

Yes Vic and Neville, to a degree I agree. But People being what they are, and as they so rightly conceive what they think But at no time do I tell them that it is sub standard or it is no good I let them be the judge of that

(Who would expect a show man with a stage name as Crazy Goodenhimer whose correct name is Frank Fontaine (Jacky Gleeson Show) to have such an amazing voice, so pleasant and easy to listen to).

Watch peoples faces change and light up at the dinner when they hear what is being said or told. It then plays a different light on the subject.
People are not fools but let people think you are a fool and when they find out it is not what they think you then have a captive audience.
Take Gregory North for instance he plays the part of a fool with his sticky tape routine but the audience soon realize the difference.
And that is the cruce of the matter, play to the audience, bring them on side, and do almost anything to attract their attention to surprise them, entertain them. Make them think and wonder and enjoy you performance.

and Bob different horses for different coarse do what you think the audience would like.

G'day Vic and Bob.

Now I have always given credit for (or blamed) Vic for getting me into the Bush Poetry scene. It was mainly through seeing his performance, and his encouraging me to get up, that I became involved in Bush Poetry. One of his pieces of advice, which follows on from the post here was; Don't apologise if you do faulter because you are the one who has had the guts to get up on the stage and recite for them. He also said it is not always necessary to say 'thank you' after you perform. Simply acknowledge the crowd with a nod or wave (or a bow of the head) and get off.
