Poem about suitcase

Post by Neville Briggs » Sat Dec 29, 2018 8:09 pm

My aunt used to recite a poem years ago which was a comical verse about a family packing a suitcase and losing the key. The suitcase gets packed and unpacked several times looking for a lost key and the skill of the recitation was to relate the list of all the items as they were unpacked and packed.
Does anybody recognise this theme, I am trying to find the name and author and the text of the poem.

G/day Neville

Don't remember that poem, but it sounds a lot like the ditty 'There was an old woman who swallowed a fly',

I found out that the poem is called " Packing " I managed to get a copy of it but no information on the writer.

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

Unfortunately Maureen, that is not the one. I am slightly surprised that Pam Ayres has not used the old poem.
My Auntie used to recite the poem " Packing " over 60 years ago at the church family concert nights ( yes I know I am that old )
She had the benefit of the genteel ladies education that included the subject ; elocution. Elocution was revived in the bush poetry comps I suppose.
