G/day Ross

I'm a bit like you mate - little or no ability with music itself.
I reckon to really do lyrics well you need to be able to compose your own music.
The only other option - or so it seems to me - is to work closely with someone who can.
I will keep writing a few poems but am giving most of the written comps away.
I know that many wouldn't agree with me, but I do think writing mainly for comps. is a bit restricting - well for me at least.
And as mentioned I'm getting a bit long in the tooth - time to try something different.

Cheers Mate

I agree with you Terry, writing for comps is restricting. The reason could be that the writer is writing to be approved, whereas , I think, a true poet will write to express their thoughts and feelings regardless of whether the result is approved or not.

Yeah, I agree with both of you, I used to enter a few comps but couldn't win any so I needed an excuse to not enter and that is what I am going with...
