I reckon Marty's spot on.

You write what you like and enjoy writing, no mater what it is, winning a competition may give you a good fuzzy feeling for awhile,
but in the wider scheme of things, doesn't prove anything really.

Take one gargoyle, add some hair, glasses, a mo and a pipe - airbrush the concrete, soften the grooves, add some flesh tones and hey presto

G'day all,Yes I'm still here.

Well I read the, mm? uh? poem? I laughed and laughed. At the ridiculous, rediculousness of the arrangement of the words. It looks like a poem and it might even sound like poem but I am still not convinced. If, however, it happens to be instructions for some kind of gymnastics, count me in. sounds like fun.

An interesting topic Catherine Lee.

.. surely it is impossible to take a competition called Wergle Flomp Humour competition seriously. It is a bit of a giggle.
You get wacko's running it, wacko's judging it and insane results. It is a bit of a laugh... I mean.. really!!

At the end of the day, I think that your poetic friend should consider himself very lucky that he was not placed or he might have tarnished his potentially illustrious poetic reputation forever.
However, if he is a serious poet and has work of merit that is not just doggerel and feels aggreived, then I suggest that he submits his poem to TAT Poetry Magazine for vetting.
If it has significant literary worth.. demonstrates some skill and ability... then it may well be accepted for publication (no entry fee). That is a big achievement in itself. Forget this other silly stuff.

If not accepted, then he has some practice and study to do before submitting again.

I hope that points him in the right direction...!

Good one Cath !
