Advance copy

It was a great, and completely unexpected, thrill to receive an advance copy of my new book in the post last Monday.

The book suddenly seems real for the first time.

It also meant I was able to give it its first 'road test' at Port Fairy Folk Festival last weekend. I was very encouraged by the response - universally positive!

It is very exciting working for a major publisher. For the first time I feel a part of a team, rather than a 'one man band'. Of course the poems themselves are the backbone of the book, but there are so many other people involved - the editor, the book designer, the illustrator, the publicist, the publisher, etc. etc.

As a self-publisher I always struggled to put together a book that 'looked' exciting, but I believe in this case Walker Books have most definitely achieved that.

The book will be released in May. I am planning a launch later that month to which all are invited, but I will post more details about that soon.

Well done Stephen,

you should bring a box full with you if you are coming to the National. It is a good place for sales and advertising in general. I have 'manned' a merchandising table for the poets in the past. Happy to 'sell' books for you.

Is there an suggested age group that your book is aimed at?
