Jack Thompson and CJ Dennis

Post by Neville Briggs » Sat Jan 05, 2013 2:54 pm

I see a full page article on C.J. Dennis and The Songs of The Sentimental Bloke on page 24 of the Weekend Australian, Review section. It is an extract of a piece by Jack Thompson, who just happens to have something to sell. Interesting though.

Apparently you can hear a free download of Jack Thompson doing C.J. Dennis's poetry on http://www.finepoets.com/ I haven't checked it out yet.

G'day Neville,

It is good for poetry in general to have someone like Jack Thompson bringing poetry to the notice of the 'masses'. It still does not really cover the fact that Jack is only vocal when he had product connected to the topic.

Zondrae Yes Jack Thompson is on audio trying to sell these poems,
just like you're telling your tales, maybe to sell a booklet or two or make a quid. What about Paterson, Lawson they did the same otherwise why did the Bulletin pay them. We all spruik our wares hoping to become well enough known and maybe make a quid in our field.

I'd offer him mine to read, Bill, but I think he might make a loss on those.

Without meaning to be unkind to Jack, I reckon I've heard a lot better renditions than his earlier efforts of Lawson & Patterson, by a few of our own ABPA members.
But saying that i agree because he is so well known it can only help Bush Poetry.
