Welll..........I reckon it's all down to 'The Primal Brain.' It ticks away there in the back of our maniacal grey matter...which is focused upon the 'current', the 'now', of which the PB is totally unaware. Back in caveman days if you were excluded by the clan....you died! There were few successful 'loners' in those days. So it's a perfectly reasonable fear of being rejected by the group (audience) because such an eventuation....your Primal Brain tells you....results in death! And so you experience many of the normal related anxieties (re pre-imminent death') and their associated physiological reactions. Clever eh? My Granny told me.............

Grannies are useful aren't they, Glenny? Speaking of theories, have you heard of the grandmother theory? It is based on the notion (I think it's true) that humans are the only species to have a menopause. The idea is that if women become unproductive well before the time of their death, they can stop being parents, and become grandparents - which offers an evolutionary advantage (as yours did you, obviously).

G'day,

Coming in late, which I am often lately, I comment on only the most recent posts.
The whole 'older women' thing is the reason we have become civilised. The non-child bearing women can care for the toddlers so that the younger ones can get on with breeding more or go hunting with the men. Also it gives the older ones a place in the 'clan' so that they don't have to do the very hard physical labour but can still useful.

Glenny :o Occam's Razor tells us (I think) that the simplest explanation is probably the true explanation.
So if I postulate that my brain is just getting old and entropic then that's probably why I "lose it ".

Stephen, Zondrae. !!! How the devil did this thread lead to the issue of the fecundity of aging females
