This has been something I've been toying with for a little while now.
We, as an Association need to preserve our Culture
Already, the National Archive download and preserve our ABPA Web-site
However we need to do more.
The preservation is a two pronged process,
1. Gathering and preserving existing material
2. Locating and gathering deceased material
There are copyright issues amongst a swag of others that need addressing,
however my juices are boiling.
Please post anything you may feel is relevant in this thread, or conversely you may PM me ...
either way, please let's keep this conversation going ...
Hopefully we may end up with a process for archiving and preserving our Cultural Works (and NOT just for vanity reasons) ...

Are people who produce music or poetry CDs required to deposit them with the National Library as you are with books?

Good question, Heather. I don't know the answer.
The difficulty also is that, even though you are supposed to send a copy of all published books to the National Library (and also the relevant state library), I suspect many don't. I have often asked self-publishers over the years if they have done this, and have received a blank look. Many self-published books don't have an ISBN number, or a Dewey number.

G'day Manny,
Couldn't agree more and I think this is what I have been contributing to in collating the poems for the ABPA Poetry Section. As you know, it includes works by Graeme Fredriksen and by the octogenarians Ellis Campbell (who is no longer writing), Ron Stevens and Colleen McLaughlin and it spans a five year period of award winning writing.
lol

G'daay Brenda,
Your work on this is invaluable! We are extremely lucky to have you, as this is a most time consuming & involved process. I was thinking of this as I wrote my post, but with the current pressures around here I seem to have developed the memory span of a moth!...& forgot to include it. Yes indeed, we already do have a basis to work from. I think it's a bonza idea to build upon this via libraries etc & who better to push that barrow than Manfred? Exciting times.

The National Library Oral History and folklore section have a marvelous collection and according to Chris Woodwood, who actively records various people for that collection, they have recordings of Will Ogilvie, Dorothea MacKellar, Bruce Simpson, Edward Harrington, Colin Newsome and a huge number of others. I suspect if my memory is correct they may even have recordings of Banjo!
I suggest those interested google the Australian Nationall Library web site and search the oral history section.
