Homework For May

Post by Bob Pacey » Wed May 03, 2023 3:06 pm

I got bored Mausie Ok.

An Australian Winter

They tell me down south the leaves are all falling
fluttering softly as they drift to the ground.
The first winter snowflakes like kisses from heaven
float on the breezes as they drift all around.

The people are wrapped in their warm winter woollies
the wood piles are stacked and there’s some on the fire.
The first winters chill lays the frost on the stockyards
as the stars like bright lights climb higher and higher.

Yes winter is here the land’s bedecked in her glory
and a hot mug of chocolate is as good as a hug.
Flannel sheets deck the beds and good bedtime story
will keep the kids warm in their beds there so snug.

But this is down south and up here in Queensland
We are all wearing Pjs and singlets to bed.
No need for warm blankets or Long Johns for us mate
The sun is still shining and it’s glowing so red.

Oh it does get a bit chilly when the sun finally settles
behind the far mountains with it’s golden glow.
But chilly for us is warm for those Crow Eaters.
and the Mexicans try to escape from the snow.

They all gather up here from June to September
travel the outback with never a care.
Soak up the sunshine and catch up with good friends
Some call this place home with it’s weather so fair.

So down south where the leaves are all changing their colour
yes people are rugging up as they prepare for the cold.
Some try to escape while others just love it
I’ll never tell them their wrong no I would not be so bold

Because this is Australia as few visitors know it
you can drive for six hours and that’s just like a stroll.
But it’s the country I love and I swear I will die here.
it’s climate and it’s beauty are engraved on my soul.

You should get bored more often Robere  that's really good - I love it. Ipswich got down to 5 degrees a couple of nights ago - a one dog night :) Lucky I had one.

Great poem, Bob! I'm missing the autumn leaves and cooler climes right now as it's been a stinker for heat here recently! Still, I can't complain... Really enjoyed the read.

Well done, Bob! You stole my thunder - I too was contemplating a "Queensland Winter (what winter?)" theme based on Maureen's prompts.

I'll keep the grey cells churning and see what I can come up with ... :?
