Remember Them

Post by Bob Pacey » Wed Aug 17, 2022 9:24 pm

]Thank You to all those Vietnam Vets who fought to keep us free.

Vietnam Vets Day

I spent an hour at dawn today upon the headland bare
I paid respect in my own way and offered up a prayer
I thought of all those young men who had fought to keep us free
but for the grace of God I realized that could have once been me.

The waves crashed on the beach the wind brought an eerie chill
I bowed my head in silent prayer as time seemingly stood still.
I tried to place myself back in the jungle thick and stark
as they faced the unrelenting enemy amidst the growing dark.

So I stood and just said thank you for the sacrifice they made
though it felt so insufficient for those lives with which they paid..
I’ll think of them and share their grief with their ever thinning ranks
and though it sounds so little in return I’ll simply just say
Thanks.

Lest We Forget.

Bob

Well said and nicely written Bob.

They never got the respect from the authorities that they deserved,
now they are preparing to crucify our SAS boys

Who'd be a soldier in this country?

Cheers

Good one Bob - so many of those blokes really drew the short straw, and sadly they were treated badly upon their return to Australia - something I still have difficulty coming to grips with. And even worse some are still paying the price of that conflict along with their families and as Terry has pointed out now we have another generation being put through the mill. :(

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

Well done Bob, concise and covers it all well.
I too was lucky my marble didn't roll out! A very unjust system, and time!
Cheers

Oh well done, Bob - a most succinct and moving tribute that says it all!
