Homework for 15/11/21 Another Country Dance.

Post by Ron » Sun Nov 07, 2021 5:47 pm

Another Country Dance.
© Ron Boughton 7/11/21

In banking clouds we were born, two disco dancing raindrops,
The first of such in turbulence, that spanned dry-mountain tops!
And then with drum roll, cymbals clanged and we were on our way
We hit parched earth, we’d led the charge, and how that band did play!
With light show dazzling flashing forth we syncronised in swing
And danced a dance of passion, for drought, is a shocking thing!
We danced and danced a rain dance and put out a coo-ee call
For countless more to join us, to send this drought to the wall!

Like champagne towers rock pools filled as trickles turned to flows
As down the mountainsides we danced to tunes of tapping toes!
And countless billions, of brothers danced in syncopated rhythm
Then infinite trillions in the chase, joined right in there with ‘em!
We led that charge out to the plains, where, we danced the tango,
And didn’t slow down until we’d filled, every dam and tank though!
A river dance was next in line, where western rivers flowed
And demon drought, who couldn’t dance, drowned at the devils crossroad!

The wetlands filled and we danced, with all the birds that flocked there,
And black swans with tuxedo looks were graceful in -mocked prayer!
Then as we danced on every roof a tap-dance from the clouds,
Beneath, we sensed the lifting of, so many 'black dog' shrouds!
At last our job had been done, for as far as we could tell
The drought was totally beaten, we had sent him back to Hell!
But we will fight again one day, no doubt, in dance recital,
For we, are components of …the original recycle!

Thanks Maureen, much appreciated and glad you enjoyed it.
I do enjoy the challenge of trying to use as many of your prompts as possible in each poem :D
Must admit the 'black tuxedos' took a bit of head scratching!

Cheers
Ron

Excellent use of the prompts, Ron! I love the black swans line too - not only in tuxedos, but heads bowed in mock prayer. Exquisite!

Cheers

Thanks Shelley, pleased that you enjoyed it. (Saw many beautiful black swans in the marshes when staying at Willie Station. That was in the good seasons of course!) :D

Cheers

Just delightful, Ron! And I too instantly singled out this line: And black swans with tuxedo looks were graceful in -mocked prayer!, which I think is brilliant, and clearly I'm not alone in this!... I also love: Like champagne towers rock pools filled as trickles turned to flows
As down the mountainsides we danced to tunes of tapping toes!
I really like the way you have the raindrops narrating this - it's different and very appealing. Well done!

Thank you Catherine, pleased that you enjoyed it.
And once again I wasn't sure where it was headed once I started. And as you have said before with some of your works, you do wonder where they come from at times! Which was certainly the case here!
Thanks again
Ron.

Many thanks Terry, I always think a bit of a different angle is always a challenge mate. Doesn't work all the time though! :D

Cheers,
Ron.
