OK I've started off the collaborative poem - whose next?????

They cruised through ancient gorges, and past towering red stone cliffs
they stopped a while to load at Waikerie
and all the while the Murray simply flowed slowly along
past red gum forests and aged river scree.
The Paddlewheels turned slowly - and loud birdsong filled the air
the cerulean sky clear and cloudfree,
to right and left were vineyards struggling to grasp a hold
forerunners of a new wine industry.

I have given you the following -

the MC - Main character ..... A male - who is he, why is he there, where is he going?

a location - On the Murray river in South Australia - The Murray is a long river flowing through many states

transport - A paddle steamer - what is its name, what is it carrying, where has it come from, where is it going to?

the year - The vineyards are new and the wine industry in and around Waikerie S. A. commenced in 1894 - BUT does this first verse actually relate to then? Ic could do - it may relate to modern times. Could two stories be intertwined together?

Time frame 1890's - What is the significance if any of that? What was happening then?

for he had called himself Bill in his dealings of deceipt
and what a devious path he had known!
But with the given names of, Cuthbert, Horace Percival,
he’d tried to leave that, all back in the past,
For he had sailed to Australia a remittance man
And ‘twas the ‘Old Dart’ where his mould was cast!

he felt a surge of hope, like mellow wines.
