Homework 21/3 From Paddock to Plate
G'day all, been a while but I thought I'd have a crack at this one!
From Plate to Paddock.
© Ron Boughton
The angus looked belligerent! sitting there upon the plate
But the battle lines long since drawn resulted in my fate,
Though I should have been a wake up, in the restaurant that night
When fluttered wisps of smoke from the kitchen came in sight!
They told us though, ‘twas under control, no need for the fire bell,
But what in heavens name! was that offensive acrid smell!
Unbeknown at the time, but oh the memory lingers still
How that angus on the plate came covertly for the kill!
For my ‘medium to well’, was char grill understated
With cooking time apparently very much belated
And in the grilling, it took on …the red glow of samphire
Hence causing, what nearly was, a destructive kitchen fire!
But being rather famished I attacked with knife and fork,
And heeded not the option had, for a cut of new York,
Though totally unaware, there was something not quite right
And the belly didn’t know, of the impending ghastly fight!
Though the night’s experience, left the effect of feeling sated,
But oh! the morn’ was when the belligerence escalated!
When the gut felt like it was a battlefield of slaughter!
And the bladder, a bag, of bursting poisoned water!
With every known discomfort therein added to the fray
I had the engaged sign up, on the dunny, all that day!
So a grazing angus, now, is all I wish to behold,
Or just in a painting, in …grasses of parchment and Gold!

G/day Ron
Sounds like a bit of Angus revenge to me Ron,
should have stuck to Lamb mate!
You made good use of the prompts as well - good to hear from you again.

Oh, an excellent take on these prompts, Ron - really thinking out of the box. Love this tale, and you have nailed the ending too!

Thanks Terry, Yeah maybe the lamb may have been a better choice!
Thanks for the comments mate. I have been intending to get back into it a bit for a while, but have to pace myself a bit. A few neck and back issues let me know if I do too much computer time.
Cheers
Ron

Greetings Ron, and welcome back to the Forum. It is great to be interacting with you again, and see you writing, despite the physical challenges.
Love the tale - and I think we've all had this experience! I remember one seafood feast with dodgy oysters ... but that's another story!!
I agree with Terry and Catherine - you really thought outside the square with these prompts.
Feel free to pop into our little circle anytime you feel the urge - and you'll find Maureen usually has a thought-provoking set of prompts up and running, to exercise our poetic brains!!
Cheers

Re: Homework 21/3 From Paddock to Plate
A very different take on the prompts Ron - poor Angus ended up on a grill plate - such is life. Not quite the finish for him I envisaged

Thanks Maureen, it was funny how it worked out. I had read the prompts and was scratching my head, when a couple of nights later I was reading the
menu in a restaurant, and there was angus jumping out of the page at me!
Cheers, Ron.
