In for a penny.... here goes...

I used to do a lot of Acrostics in the classroom with young children. They always loved doing their own name. Enjoyed this one!

Cyclone Marcia

Crashing, clawing at the door she comes to annihilate
You see us as we worry, wonder and we wait
Cowering, frightened, we hide and take cover -
Lashing, thrashing toward us like some demented lover.
Over waters dark and stormy is how she comes to ravish;
No bounds she knows - takes all, just not the lavish.
Eventually she’ll strike and all will feel her pain -
More than strong wind, she dumps unrelenting rain.
A flooding field, a raging road and gardens turned to slush.
Ruthlessly destroying homes, in her almighty rush.
Cruelly she takes away our livelihood, determined as she darts
In a flummox of fury then moves to other parts…
And we are left to mend much more than broken hearts!

Thanks Wazza, Catherine and Bob. I'm a bit slow in replying but pleased you enjoyed it. I shared it at our Townsville Bush Poetry Mates meeting but can't get them to come on to the site. A couple said they had trouble joining the forum. Just goes to show there are people more technologically challenged than me! We have started doing some homework for our monthly meetings which is turning out to be loads of fun.

Cheers

Dot
