The Storage Trunk
Was in the heart of suburbia I found it, in an old ramshackle shed
standing there with all the bric a brac and junk.
I had found a wealth of treasures sifting through the rubbish piles
but I was sure this was a grand old carriage trunk.
There was nothing there to tell me of the secrets that it hid
no name plate or a makers mark or brand.
But my intuition told me that it came from better times
when it adorned a carriage gracefully and grand.
I could but then imagine how it came to lie here now
in the dust and grime of this old storage shed
But I would take it home and ponder all the secrets that it hid
and the things it stored for people now long dead.

Amazing what one finds in old sheds - Did you really find this? Wow - Lucky you if you did. Having a picnic out of these is as I recall wonderful. Everything neatly stowed away with plates and cutlery stored in the lid. A lovely tartan rug to sit on and a thermos. Grander and simpler days that we have lost along with so many other things. Gracious living these days in the mani is a thing of the past. No one has the time.
I enjoyed reading your poem and the little sojourn in memory lane Bob

Yes Maureen it holds my painters drop cloths and it looks to be an old travellers sample basket has four steel wheels and investigation tells me the travellers used to lock their products samples in them at the various locations and take what they needed for the day around town. Most travelled by train in those days.
