I was going to do a bit more but run out of steam - This is a sort of 'Back To The Future'

BITTER SWEET MEMORIES - THE FIRST MEETING

Across the crowded dance hall of a tiny country town,
there swaying to the music danced a girl called Nellie Brown.
His eyes were for her only as she glided on the floor,
and past where he was standing; hiding just inside the door.

His heart beat ever faster as her eyes met his at last,
then gave the sweetest smile to him while dancing swiftly past.
And wishfully he watched her as she charmed both young and old;
her short cropped golden hair, made her a sight to now behold.

He tried to find the courage to perhaps ask for a dance,
but shyness held him back once more; again he’d missed his chance.
Then came the Pride of Erin where changed partners shared their charms;
a miracle then happened as she danced into his arms.

Aaaaaah - see Sue just posted before I did...females think alike

He held her close and twirled her round - moved forward then stepped back
but kind fate shined upon him, segued to a Gypsy Tap
and when the dance was ended they were both flushed and hot
so he asked if she might care to walk - she said she'd rather not. :lol: :lol:

Well you needed a reason as to why the memory was bitter Mate :? :P Sorry :oops:

Liked it - very romantic....you blokes have to learn to go the extra yard....no good keeping your mouth shut, wont even catch flies that way.

Hi Folks,
I had intended to finish the poem (we know from the first one that he ends up losing her) by describing the brief but eventually unsuccessful courtship, then to be honest I started to lose interest, but who knows there is still 9 days to go, I have the rest of the story in my head it's just a case of finding the inspiration to write it.

Bob,
I'm a bit like you and like a happy ending, but suspect there's too much already known to change the outcome too much, but there could be a heart wrenching reason for him abandoning his pursuit of Nellie - We'll see?

Perhaps we will get to see the whole story unfold in one poem, er perhaps?

Cheers and thank for the comments,

Terry
