Paraburdoo

I sat and watched the white corellas on their flighty path upstream
drifting on the winter air as if in a wind swept dream.
Past the red rock walls that almost shine and glisten in the sun
a flash of white as thousands turn and merge as if as one.

Their journey takes them quickly past the towering red rock walls
down the valley where sweet veils of water falls and swiftly sprawls
Their racaus calls did echo through the unending wide expanse
carried on rapacious winds their voices seem to dance.

Through the wide Karijini ranges where the wallaby's abound
and the hidden vally's echo and return their rumbling sound.
Where is this place I speak of that brings me oh such joy
Why it's Paraburdoo the place I love and lived in as a boy.

Love the concept Bob - found it a bit rocky in places - and fiddled a bit - would these be a bit better perhaps?

Where their raucous cries keep echoing, through the unending expanse
carried on rapacious winds, their strident voices seem to dance.

Through the wide Karijini ranges where the wallaby's abound
and the hidden valley’s echo and return their rumbling sound.
Where is this place I speak of that brings me oh such joy
Why it's Paraburdoo the place I love and lived in as a boy.

But some of those do not agree with the set homework topic

eg. unending expanse ?

Must be improving not so many changes ?

Paraburdoo is the nearest town to our lease on the Ashburton ,(about 140 klms) the thing that always amuses me is that most of the Corella's at the shopping center are various shades of brown, depending how much thet've been dusted.
they hang around with the crows looking for some free tucker. There was quite a lot of rain over summer, wonder if it helped to clean them up a bit.

Little bit of poetic licence there Terry only know what I have read. Never lived there.

Sounds like a real outback expanse. We have flocks of Galah's coming into the park every afternoon which is unusual for our area and with all the rain you would think they would be better off in the bush.

One thing I have found is that animals sure know where to get a free feed and sometimes when it is good enough they stay around but who can blame them.

Hi Bob & Maureen,
Nothing wrong with the poem & I certainly wasn't meaning to infer otherwise.
I was surprised when I flicked through and saw the name, it was quite unexpected.
I thought you maybe interested in the brownish Correla's, I have never noticed this
anywhere else.
Paraburdoo is a mining town with big Iron Ore deposits, and is only a few miles from
Tom Price the first thing that you see when you arrive is all the green from the well
irrigated and maintained lawn areas. This was more noticeable than usual last year
due to the severe drought in surrounding areas. I will be up there again from about
the 14 June, we go into town every two or three weeks to top up on supplies.

Oh Terry I was only having a dig at Mr RAMP never took you comment any other way but was really interested to know that the Corellas up there are brown - we would never have known that had you not told us and use of that in a poem would give it added authenticity. Nothing like sharing a bit of local knowledge.

A comment that Manfred made and the fact that the prompt of Gilgandra got a few more bites than normal got me to thinking that as ABPA we could look at writing more poems relating to particular towns. It will encourage people to explore their own country via Google to get the information to write about it...figure that's not a bad thing...so my plan was/is to incorporate a different place in each set of poetry prompts and see how it goes...so far there has been someone or several someone's who have lived,been through or worked at the places I have picked. Also I am keen to showcase to the rest of the world - that is presuming the rest of the world reads what we put on this site - some of the magical and lyrical Aboriginal place names that just flow off the tongue like molten silver.

So Paraburdoo it was this time - love the sound of that.

So Terry look forward to seeing you write about a place close to you with brown Corellas taking centre stage - don't let me down.
