ODE TO MY DRESSING GOWN
(c) Shelley Hansen 2025
It's locked away all summer in a darkened closet space,
forlorn (but not forgotten) in the heat.
but when the crunch of frosted grass arrives, it takes its place
as front and centre! Wardrobe is complete!
It's pink and plush and pretty, and I reach for it at dawn
when fern frost spreads on windscreens, and I rise
reluctantly from bedclothes' depths to shiver and to yawn,
and face the mix of routine and surprise.
It cradles me through breakfast and that first sweet cup of tea.
I linger, putting off the need to dress.
On "home" days I just potter on in comfort, feeling free -
untroubled by frigidity and stress.
With shorter days and longer nights, it seems the perfect treat
to shower just before the sun has set,
then greet the evening swathed in pink, with slippers on my feet -
impervious to chilly air. You bet!
The winter winds that whip and whine may rattle through the trees.
The frosty breath of darkness settles down.
But I am warm from head to toe, protected from the freeze -
so cosy in my winter dressing gown!

Love it - well done you and just colour me
Despite wearing my Uggies and Oodie, here in downtown Ipswich I am freezing .... Aaargh. it gets worse each year - must be age related.
Can see you - a vision in pink, looking pretty in your winter dressing gown.
