HW November - Objection Mollified

Post by Catherine Lee » Tue Nov 15, 2022 4:04 pm

Just a bit of fun...

Objection Mollified

“Don’t do a Melba here”, she moaned, “I’m just not in the mood.
Your drama-queen acts wear me down – now come and get your food…
You promised me you’d given up on such unthinking ways—
now here you are repeating your mistakes, with eyes ablaze!

Come back here! Are your ears just painted on? I know you hear!
I want to have a chat about this bloke, and make it clear
he’s not for you. He’s rough as guts. What’s more, from what I see,
apparently, he’s fallen from that famous ugly tree.

What is it that you see in him? It can’t be intellect—
he’s barmy as a bandicoot and doesn’t show respect.
It’s time you called the shots, my girl, and sent him down the track—
said, “See you round like rissoles. Never bother coming back!”

You say his blood’s worth bottling, yet I can’t see this is true.
Enlighten me – he seems so lazy, has no point of view!
I looked at her and whimpered in my most pathetic way,
“I love him, Mum, it’s simply that – what more is there to say?”

She heaved frustrated sighs, but when he suddenly strolled in,
just couldn’t help herself – I found it hard to hide my grin.
“Oh, come on then”, she murmured low—soft heart could not disguise—
for just like me she melted in those mournful canine eyes.

Love it Catherine, great use of the prompts too!
The last line was a cracker, really was the Twist in the tale (tail! 8-) ) and a wagging one at that!
Really well done! Great read!
Cheers
Ron.

Ah, thanks so much, Ron and Dolly - not my usual style of poetry but I could never resist a twist in the "tail"!

Excellent, Catherine! Succinct, humorous and written with skill. I especially like short poems with a surprise ending like your witty Objection Mollified. It was fun reading it! Gary

That's a beauty, Catherine!

Great use of the prompts as always, and like the others, I'm a sucker for surprise endings! :D
