GONE FISHING

GONE FISHING

I'm sitting on the fishing wharf,
going to catch myself a fish.
Cook it in some crunchy batter,
That will be my fondest wish.
Smother it in lemon butter,
so I make it taste delish'
Serve it on a silver platter
It will be a tasty dish.

I keep baiting up my hook,
and I cast into the bay.
I will fish until I catch a fish
If it takes me all the day
I hope my constant casting hasn't
scared all the fish away
Come on fishes, come and take the bait
is what I hope and pray.

I'm still sitting by the water,
this is doing in my head.
Not a single bite or nibble,
guess the fish have gone to bed.
When I go back home for supper,
This is all that can be said -
'I didn't catch a single fish
I guess it's sausages instead'

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.
