Wrote this for the grandkids and got the thumbs up, so thought I'd put it on here.

Weary the Worm

Tell me, do earthworms sleep at night
Beneath the ground where there is no light
Or do they just keep nibbling away
And nibbling and nibbling all night and day!

They could not read a book in bed
Because they have no eyes, but instead,
Maybe they just keep chomping away
And chomping and chomping all night and day!

But would they have a bed or not
Well, only in a garden plot
And there they’d just keep munching away
And munching and munching all night and day!

Please tell me someone, to be sure
Deep in the compost, do they snore
Or is their life, just chewing away
And chewing and chewing all night and day!

But do they ever have a rest,
From turning poor soil into the best
Or do they just keep casting away
And casting and casting all night and day!

So I don’t really know, do you
If earthworms catch a wink or two,
But with the nibble, chomp, munch and chew
I think they’d get a bit tired …don’t you!

So Weary the worm, he had a rest
he'd worked all night and felt quite stressed.
But wished he hadn't - daylight stirred,
plucked and eaten by a bird.

There ya go Ron, kids love a tragic ending.

good fun Ron and agree with Marty the gorier the ending the better the kids like it along with toilet humour for some obscure reason

with the peers. May have to write a sequel at some stage, parents might sensor

I wouldn't go mixing toilet humour and worms...the poem could take a turn for the worse.
