TOY TRAIN

Post by LongMan » Thu Nov 15, 2012 5:56 am

G'day All,

This is one for the youngsters in us all.

“Polly B - 0-4-0”

Packet front, clear and cardboard red
Bright yellow text everything is said
Square white foam protects whats inside?
Its instructions give details, full of pride
Two tongues say open, “Huh” whats inside?

With a lift, a slight pull, a firm gentle tug
My big hands grapple, yet my smiles now smug
Wow, it all falls out on my table with a clunk
Sit back, relax its over, a sip for my thirsty mug
Gee, that was stuck in there like a big cork plug!

Here between my fingers, its careful cradled to be
It's Black and green plastic, body for all to see
Stout frame, electric motor, wheels spin free
1,2 and 4 screw hold push rods, but no three?
Lost, I grab tweezers, and a good lights the key

Now, its all together, fingers place it on the track
Carefully I must make sure its all totally intact
A Twist of the throttle it glides forward and back
But theres no smoke from its tiny smoke stack!
Head on track, as I watch it go round, click-ity clack.

Tiny brass whistle, all shiny however silent in key
Empty sand dome sits, splits the whistle and chimney,
it provides silence, seems no fights or nuisance to be
Cab empty, with fake lumpy coal on back for you see
Twin red bumpers look over its simple hook couplers

My deep child thoughts are sad for a old joyful memory
This simple toy is long gone in the round file cemetery
Others didn't care nor truly loved its jewel complexity
One careless goofy big foot destroyed its symmetry
SOB! the little Hornby's “Polly-B” is all lost to history.
