Annas Poems

Post by mummsie » Fri Sep 07, 2012 8:52 am

Well here they are folks, as promised. The two poems written by 9 year old Anna, the result of our poeting session at Garran school last monday.

The Howling Wind

The wind howls
the sea growls
and these days go on
and upon the wind the birds will ride
and the waves form at high tide
I'll take a ride to the ocean
or ride upon the air
this happens in my dreams I fly
and forever on these dreams will never die.

Countryside

For all my childhood and more
I've walked from store to store
but my dreams are the countryside
on a plain thats open wide
I'd ride a horse
I'd climb a tree
to the top of the branches at destiny
I'd see an animal run far and wide
I'd hear the animals call
I'd own a cottage small
of wood and toughest stone
and the countryside I'd call my home.
the door is always open, the kettles always on, my shoulders here to cry on, i'll not judge who's right or wrong.

They are both great Sue. The first one is just soooo good, I am mightily impressed.

Let's hope Anna will continue on with her wonderful poetic imagination.

Maureen, Marty and Neville,I will pass on the comments to Anna.
The first poem arrived at Brians office two days after the session and she read it to me on the phone, I too was suitably impressed. So filled with enthusiasm for her I encouraged her to do another, next day another poem. Who knows where it may lead and if only one child takes an interest in writing or listening to bush poetry away from the afternoon well thats one more than last week.
Cheers
