Thanks everyone for the replies.

The influence for this was the old folk "gothic" ballads that use the question and answer structure to build the story. ( e.g. Sir Patrick Spens, Edward,Edward, The Unquiet Grave ) Not to mechanically imitate them but I thought that their style was suited to express my feelings about the subject.

Maureen and Warooa- Marty, I assume that our military does understand. I fear that the journalists and some politicians who puzzle about the supposed " rogue " assassins simply don't undertand the nature of the force we are up against.

I really enjoyed your poem.

while I understand why we're supposed to be there, I just think in this case it's futile, and a wasted sacrifice of Aussie lives.
But everyone's entitled to their own opinion I guess.
