Along the Way
(By ALANM July 2021)

Along the way I saw these things, I’ve lived this long to say
with a thousand other forgotten things I bumped into on my way.

The World that we all live in, changes each and every day
back then it was so simple, you could live for just the day.

As you walked along the road, anyone you passed would say
“G’day mate, how’re you goin’, can I be of help to you today”.

We had rules and regulations but unlike those we have these days
they were there to help us, not suppress in every way.

Empathy and Chivalry have long since disappeared
winning’s all that matters now, your fellow man is to be feared.

The World has filled with people, all fighting to exist
to get the scraps discarded by the Mega wealthy rich.

There is no peace anywhere you look, the battle rages on
how I long for my simple life, like the tide, it’s ebbed and gone.

Yes, we certainly can't call it "the simple life" now, Alan - more's the pity!

Hi Shelley.. this from an unknown to me author
“Grief and misery..pains and woes..debts and taxes..so it goes
troubles pilin’ up day by day..Life gets tedious don’t it”

We must be about the same vintage Alann.

Another bit of that poem goes

Hound dog howling so forlorn, He's howling cause he's sitting on a thorn,
and to dang lazy to move over.

Cheers Terry

G’day Terry
Your reference to this poem prompted me to have a look for the author,
according to Wikipedia “Life gets Tee-Jus don’t it” was written and first
spoken by Carson Robinson in 1948, released on the MGM label.
