WHEN THE MAN IN THE MOON IS SMILING

Post by Vic Jefferies » Fri Nov 27, 2015 2:58 pm

WHEN THE MAN IN THE MOON IS SMILING
(for all the grand parents)

When the Man in the Moon is smiling,
and moonbeams tumble down,
Like precious pearls and diamonds
from some royal emperor’s crown;

When the tiny stars are twinkling,
high above us in the skies
and the Sandman’s quietly sprinkling
sleep into children’s eyes.

When the trees are gently swaying
and bell birds sweetly chime -
When the silver clouds are playing,
there comes a special time;

For this is when all the fairies,
every pixie, elf and gnome
All come and meet together
at their Queen’s lovely home,

And the Queen of all the Fairies
listens to what they say,
As each one reports to her
of whom they helped that day.

For the fairies and their friends
have quite a lot to do,
Helping all the children, even those
who don’t believe they’re true!

They have to collect the children’s teeth
that are left out every night,
And make sure all the fairy bread
is made exactly right!

They have to paint the rainbows
that arch across the skies
And they have to put the twinkles
into all grandparents eyes.

They must collect the wishes
made in wishing wells each day
And take them to the Fairy Queen
to see what she will say;

If the Fairy Queen is happy
with all the work they’ve done,
She rings her magic silver bell
and a merry party is begun!

So, if you listen carefully,
and if you are very quiet,
When you snuggle up in your bed
to go to sleep tonight,

You might hear the tinkling
of the Queen’s silver bell
And you’ll know there is a party
down in the fairy’s secret dell!

Hi Vic ... nice one. Wish I had grand children young enough to see the magic in it.

I can only echo the comments above. A beautiful poem that deserves to be read to young children. I will seek this poem out if and when I become a grandfather :D
